Luis Jauregui Frias

Institution: Instituto Mora (Mexican research institute devoted to History and Social Sciences). Currently, Dr. Jauregui is Director General of the Institute Mora.

Research Fields: Economic History, analysis of fiscal modernization in México and Spanish America, with special emphasis on fiscal federalism.

Member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores of Mexico: SNI, nivel II.

Doctor Jauregui obtained his first university degree in 1979, grado de licenciado en economía por el Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. In 1983 he received his Masters in Análisis económico por el Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México.

In 1994 his doctorate in History El Colegio de México with a thesis (later published as a book) on the fiscal and administrative organization of the Viceroyalty of New Spain (Mexico), 1750-1810. 

He received scholarships from the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología of Mexico for his Masters and Doctoral studies.

He is author of 43 publications, 13 articles in acadmeic journals, twenty chapters in academia books, 6 books, and 4 works of articles for general university readers.

Since 1991 he has given a great many classes on economics and economic history at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana and the Instituto Mora. 

He has directed psotgraduate work with students at the Institute Mora since 2000, including the direction of theses by master's and doctoral students. His teaching specializations are Economic Theory, Economic History, and Fiscal History of Mexico.

He has organized two of the international congresses of the Mexican Association of Economic History, those of 2001 and 2007. He is currently President of the Mexican Association of Economic History, a post which he will hold until February 2010.
